Day 1: Depart Arusha for Ngorongoro HighlandsDepart Arusha today and drive towards the small town of Karatu. Pass through rural farmland, where the Maasai continue to graze their cattle, before arriving at your lodge. It takes approximately three hours to drive here from Arusha.
Arrive in time to relax and freshen up before enjoying a light lunch. In the afternoon, explore the surrounding hills on a Tanzania safari walk with your guide or take a guided walk around the farm and soak up spectacular views and see how the traditional Maasai live. Day 2: Ngorongoro HighlandsExperience the Ngorongoro Crater on a full day excursion with picnic lunch. You will marvel at the spectacular views as your reach the crater’s rim. A World Heritage Site and the largest intact volcanic caldera in the world, the Ngorongoro Crater is one of Africa's most remarkable wildlife areas. Permanent populations of more than 30 000 animals inhabit a mere 260 km² in the 600 m deep crater, making this one of the few places in Africa where you can expect close encounters with big game: lion, rhino, cheetah, hippo, elephant and hyena.
Stop at one of the designated picnic sites on the Crater floor and enjoy a picnic lunch surrounded by beautiful African scenery and vast herds of buffalo, zebra, wildebeest and gazelle. The saline waters of Lake Magadi attract flocks of flamingo whilst other bird species on the Crater floor include the ostrich and the Kori bustard. Day 3: Ngorongoro Highlands to SerengetiAfter breakfast, drive northwest through Maasai lands, down onto the flat Serengeti Plain and into the Serengeti National Park. These flat open plains are teeming with the migration during the months of late-November to April. Spend two nights at your luxury Serengeti Lodge. Enjoy lunch before you head out on your afternoon game drive. Your game drive could end with a ‘Serengeti sundowner’ where you will be driven to a scenic spot where a campfire and bush bar with cocktail snacks will already have been set up. Enjoy your drinks against the unforgettable backdrop of the African sunset. Day 4: SerengetiExplore the endless plains of the Serengeti on morning and afternoon / evening game drives. Morning game drives begin as the sun is rising. There is always the chance of seeing a pride of lion lingering over last night's kill…. In the late afternoon, sit watching herds of buffalo and elephant as they make their way down to the river to drink. Should you prefer, the two daily game drives can be replaced with one longer game drive with a picnic lunch provided.
Ballooning safaris are optional and a magical way to experience the Serengeti as you enjoy a bird's eye view of the wildlife that is below you. Day 5: Depart Serengeti to ArushaFollowing an early morning game drive and breakfast, you will transfer to the airstrip for your scheduled flight to Arusha. |
