On Tanzania Safari at Kambi Ya Tembo Camp

For the most unique Tanzania safari experience a stay at Kambi Ya Tembo will provide an unmatched cultural wilderness in the shadows of Kilimanjaro. Kambi Ya Tembo is in the Sinya private concession, an area of 600 square kilometres facing the snow capped Kilimanjaro. This unique landscape has views of Mount Meru, Ol Doinyo Longido, Ol doinyo Orok.

There are a few Maasai villages in the Sinya concession and guests will have the opportunity to visit and experience the culture of this proud tribe. The Maasai still live the traditional way and follow all the tradition ceremonies. Guests are privileged to attend these ceremonies when available.

Kambi Ya Tembo is an exclusive luxury tented camp in the foothills of Kilimanjaro and as it is not located in a national park, night drives and guided walks are permitted.

This land is home to some of the biggest Elephant Bulls in East Africa that carry tusks of considerable size. These bulls, together with herds of mothers and calves, migrate between Amboseli National Park and the Acacia woodlands of Kenya in search of water and food. The border has no fence, so many of the animals routinely move from one area to another.

Many of these elephants have been monitored by Cynthia Moss for more than 25 years. Cynthia Moss, considered by many to be the world's greatest specialist in elephant behaviour, studies the elephants living in Amboseli. Moss has developed a system of photographing their heads in profile, to show each ear with its unique markings and veins.
